So far this year more than 110,000 workers on Wall Street have lost their jobs. Most estimates agree that by the time the bloodletting is done we could end up with almost 200,000 financial sector workers joining the ranks of the unemployed.

But that isn't all.

Manufacturing is still shedding jobs, especially anything to do with autos or auto parts.

Construction workers -and- the many industries that support them are also looking grim.

And let's not forget the front end of autos, the most beloved people on the planet- car salesman!!!

Many estimates are also trending towards 1 in 5 car dealerships closing if current conditions persist.

So, with all these newly unemployed people around, what should be done???

It's easy!

Despite record deficits across the board, despite economic troubles and increased unemployment, there is still one place that's hiring-

The Pentagon!

That's right- the one place the government hasn't even discussed making any cutbacks whatsoever. And they're always looking for good people.

Just think what the Pentagon could do with two hundred or even three hundred thousand new soldiers... can anyone say liberation time???

With such a nice influx of new manpower and all those shiny toys the military has been buying at record pace, maybe another invasion would be just the ticket to get folks minds off the situation at home eh?

Now to be fair it would be a big transition to get former investment bankers to put down their briefcases and pick up rifles, but I'm sure a special bootcamp could probably get them squared away in no time!

i was just talking to a police recruiter, the local police requires 45 college credit hours (not even an associate degree), starts off at 41K a year plus benefits (the moment you sign up, aka, they will be paying you the moment you walkt through the police academy doors), and is trying to recruit... well... as many people as they can

Oh and they give you a 10k sign up bonus... 4k to sign up. 6k if you pass the police academy.

I have an idea too for consideration: lock half of them up in prison where they probably belong (especially the finance people) and give the other half jobs guarding them. There! problem solved!

Just offer them big bonuses for killing enemy combatatants - they take too many risks, die off at a fast rate (solving the increased expenditure problems long-term), and hopefully bring insurgencies such as in Afghanistan that have been growing strongly for many years prior to their arrival to their knees and possibly even destroy them completely. Then the other insurgency organisations may have to divert some of their resources to Afghanistan in an attempt to bail them out!

except, most of those who lost their jobs, if not ALL of them, had done nothing wrong. Lay offs is why they are fired. Or are you telling me they are all CEOs and deicion makers?

it is a bit in bad taste to joke about mass murdering "evil greedy wall street people" when none of them actually were.

Maybe I am not hanging in the right crowed but where I come from we don't do that.

Where exactly did I insinuate that any of these folks were evil and greedy? And where did I state that they were going to be mass murdered?

All I did was offer a solution to the unemployment crises affecting many good hardworking folks. In partaking of military service, they will have

1) Job security

2) Good healthcare

3) Be contributing to the experiment that is called democracy by defending their great nation. I've served in my nation's armed forces so I intend no disrespect when I state this!
