It's time to pony up and admit it. With all the hoopla we've been seeing over the last couple weeks, Palin should be the one running for president in the Republican camp. She seems to be the focal point of the whole discussion at this point.

McCain hasn't been getting too terribly much attention, for, well, anything, for pretty much this whole election. He's not charismatic. He doesn't have the charm or wit or any personable characteristics that will endear him to the American people. Other than of course, reminding us of 'gramps'. Even Bush, on the personal level, was a thousand times more endearing to average folks with his "awe shucks" persona of fumbling words and squinty-expressions when talking of evil doers.

I mean no disrespect when I say this, but let's be real here people. Up until Palin came along, the whole discussion was about what an evil man Obama supposedly is. How he wants to eat babies, take all your money, knows nothing, lies about everything, blah blah blah. No real mention of McCain other than in passing that he knows more and the like.

Then Palin comes along and the whole discussion is about her.

Did you hear the horrible things they're smearing her with? oh my gaawd!!!

Did you hear her awesome speech?? Wasn't it a powerhouse??

Palin, Palin, Palin. Again, we hear very little about McCain. But yet he is the man being put forth as the potential POTUS. Shouldn't folks be whipped up into a frenzy about McCain with the smaller frenzy reserved for Palin?

Instead we have no frenzy whatsoever for McCain. No energy, no fizzle and pop. In a superficial society like we live in today, a leader needs to have some mechanism that will appeal to folks to get them in his or her camp. Unfortunately, McCain simply doesn't have it. Maybe at one time he did, but now he's past his prime. Again, no disrespect intended. It's just that whenever he says or does something it's kinda like watching paint dry. Seriously.

On the other side of the coin, Palin may be a saving grace for the Republicans as before she came along their whole gimmick was continually painting Obama as an evildoer and little else. The problem is, if you do it constantly you can do it overboard and folks get used to the same old song and dance. Now, they have the ability to slice and dice. Talk a little about how awesome Palin is (throw in a shot of her snowmobiling or something, I dunno) then talk a little about how evil Obama is. Throw in some salt to flavour the bullshit (pardon my french) and folks usually don't clue in as fast.

But then again, what do I know. Last election they did succeed at painting a combat veteran as a coward while the other guy kinda sorta showed up to the national guard in texas for awhile around the same time and did little else. But then again, last time the combat veteran was as boring as watching paint dry and the other guy had way more charisma on his side. Now, the roles are reversed so it should be interesting to say the least.

I predict, Obama, not wanting to be one-upped will unveil his VP pick as some kind of proto-type robot that everyone will fall in love with it's flashing lights and comical "beep-boop" noises. Yes, that's it.....

OckhamsRazor-

The result of that is that now our politicians are forced to entertain us to be viable because that's how we've been trained. Not exactly what I want when listening to a Pres or VP candidate. I want facts, not smears, sound bites, and snowmobile clips.

And I agree with you 100% Saddly, this is nothing new. I believe that for most of the 90's onward U.S presidents have been elected mostly on their public appeal factor. If intelligence and experience are present, that's a plus but not the core of getting someone in office.

Look at Gore. Now before folks get their hackles up, look at this from a purely objective standpoint. Without getting into the whole partisan pissing contest, Gore had more intelligence than Bush. His track record for accomplishments (in my opinion) far outstripped Bush whose only real succesful venture was owning a baseball team at one point. Now, without getting into the whole recall issue, lets just agree that Bush won. Why?

Gore, despite his intelligence and experience, was boooooriiing. Lil' George however, had the God-fearin' cowboy persona well cultivated. Bush won the personality contest and he won with this twice. Now, situation's reversed.

McCain's got way more experience than Obama. But he's boring as sin. And at 71, he'd definitely only be a one, or half term-er.

But if she gets power(say, McCain kicks it while in office) and runs the country and starts speaking(or rather thinking) that way...eh...we'll have a bit of a problem. Then you got yourself a Divine Leader...and oh the trouble that can come with that...

There's an interesting interview I watched the other day in which she said that if Russia 'interferes' again we should essentially go to war with them. That was really reassuring.....

Show me a president - any one - that has not invoked the devine in their reign. Show me how this is different from Obama invoking god and praying. You cant. What scares you is the fear mongering, not the actual words - taken in or out of context. Indeed, the most religious president we have had in modern times was a democrat. A lousy one, but a democrat. So you may have a point about her not being a good president, but not about bringing God into the job (they all do). And you make the same mistake that the democrats are doing - you are running Obama against Palin. She is not running for president.

As reassuring as bombing Pakistan? See Arty, you are doing it too. mcCain has croaked, and the candidate is Palin.

It's interesting to me how fearful some people profess to be over the chance she could become VP, let alone P, based on her religion.  My nephew claims to be 'scared to death'.  Don't know what she could possibly do to hurt him, but there ya go.  I can't really see how her religious beliefs are any more of a threat than BO's.

no kidding.  I agree.  If anything Obama's was much scarier.

Most candidates want to let an electorate know that they are Christian, but can't do it themselves because its frowned upon. I've never heard of a candidate being harmed by Christianity, unless of course, they worship for 20 years with a vile, hate spewing, black liberation theologian who hates America and White devils.
