It's time to pony up and admit it. With all the hoopla we've been seeing over the last couple weeks, Palin should be the one running for president in the Republican camp. She seems to be the focal point of the whole discussion at this point.

McCain hasn't been getting too terribly much attention, for, well, anything, for pretty much this whole election. He's not charismatic. He doesn't have the charm or wit or any personable characteristics that will endear him to the American people. Other than of course, reminding us of 'gramps'. Even Bush, on the personal level, was a thousand times more endearing to average folks with his "awe shucks" persona of fumbling words and squinty-expressions when talking of evil doers.

I mean no disrespect when I say this, but let's be real here people. Up until Palin came along, the whole discussion was about what an evil man Obama supposedly is. How he wants to eat babies, take all your money, knows nothing, lies about everything, blah blah blah. No real mention of McCain other than in passing that he knows more and the like.

Then Palin comes along and the whole discussion is about her.

Did you hear the horrible things they're smearing her with? oh my gaawd!!!

Did you hear her awesome speech?? Wasn't it a powerhouse??

Palin, Palin, Palin. Again, we hear very little about McCain. But yet he is the man being put forth as the potential POTUS. Shouldn't folks be whipped up into a frenzy about McCain with the smaller frenzy reserved for Palin?

Instead we have no frenzy whatsoever for McCain. No energy, no fizzle and pop. In a superficial society like we live in today, a leader needs to have some mechanism that will appeal to folks to get them in his or her camp. Unfortunately, McCain simply doesn't have it. Maybe at one time he did, but now he's past his prime. Again, no disrespect intended. It's just that whenever he says or does something it's kinda like watching paint dry. Seriously.

On the other side of the coin, Palin may be a saving grace for the Republicans as before she came along their whole gimmick was continually painting Obama as an evildoer and little else. The problem is, if you do it constantly you can do it overboard and folks get used to the same old song and dance. Now, they have the ability to slice and dice. Talk a little about how awesome Palin is (throw in a shot of her snowmobiling or something, I dunno) then talk a little about how evil Obama is. Throw in some salt to flavour the bullshit (pardon my french) and folks usually don't clue in as fast.

But then again, what do I know. Last election they did succeed at painting a combat veteran as a coward while the other guy kinda sorta showed up to the national guard in texas for awhile around the same time and did little else. But then again, last time the combat veteran was as boring as watching paint dry and the other guy had way more charisma on his side. Now, the roles are reversed so it should be interesting to say the least.

I predict, Obama, not wanting to be one-upped will unveil his VP pick as some kind of proto-type robot that everyone will fall in love with it's flashing lights and comical "beep-boop" noises. Yes, that's it.....

boring as watching paint dry

I think this statement is a pointer to one of the problems we Americans have.  The media generates it, but WE allow them to, and WE buy it.  One of any politician's jobs is not to entertain me.  If I hire a plumber to come fix my sink, I don't need him to juggle and tell jokes, too.  I need him to fix the damn sink.  And if one shows up, and he's a great joke teller, but fails to fix my sink, the entertainment I received is no consolation.

Not saying that you're this way Art...you just brought it up.  Americans would do very well indeed to start reading more and stop watching the idiot box.  Or if they are going to watch the idiot box, to keep one thing in mind.  Every show, even the news, has one and only one purpose.  To sell commercials.  And they'll do and say anything to keep you on their station through the commercial break.

The result of that is that now our politicians are forced to entertain us to be viable because that's how we've been trained.  Not exactly what I want when listening to a Pres or VP candidate.  I want facts, not smears, sound bites, and snowmobile clips.

You are right about Palin (wrong about Obama, but we will save that for another day).

And the crowning irony is that it is not only the republicans doing it.  The democrats are piling on!  I am sure the republicans do not mind.  After all, McCain is about as exciting as watching paint dry.  But the democrats have the opportunity to ignore her and get back to the business at hand.  Yet they seem to be stuck in Palin mode.

It is fun to watch.  It sure beats the last 3 elections (very boring all) for entertainment value.  But then why worry?  Grab some popcorn (I like butter on mine) and pull up a chair.  The theatrics have already started.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've already said that I was going to see who McCain picks as a running mate.  Come November my choices will be McCain, Obama, Nader, McKinney and Barr, to me niether choice gives me much hope.   The biggest role of the VP has become "heir apparent" for the nomination in 4-8 years, so I'm looking to the future.

I don't think I like our little Christian soldier, Palin.

Apparently the Iraq War is God's plan...and the Alaskan natural gas pipeline is God's will.

I know how crazy people can get with that mindset...*sigh*

Well Bidden must be falling for it (his own parties spin), cause now he's questioning (at least that what it sounds like) Obama's choice of him for VP (shoulda picked Hillary). First impressions are important.

I don't think I like our little Christian soldier, Palin

I'm not crazy about candidates invoking God in statements either, then again I don't like it when they sit in a church for 20 years that advocates/promotes racism and radicalism.

Sorry, you and Matt Damon wait for the first Atheist or Pagan president or VP.  Until then I guess you'll have to put up with crazy talk from people who believe in God speaking their minds about what they believe about God.

I think you should probably research these statements before making condescending remarks.

She said neither.

I am not a Christian right person.  Never have been.  But I dont have a problem with someone who goes to a seminary and speaks that way.  After all, we can find the democrats doing the same thing.  You speak to the audience, or you lose them.

But Arty is right.  This comment just goes to show that the democrats are no longer running against McCain, but Palin.

Wont let me edit.  I meant to reference Zoo's comment, not Nitro's.

Hey Zoo.  It is really sad now adays that we have to do research ourselves in order to find the truth.  I found a link on YouTube of the alleged scrutinized speech at her former Wasilla Assembly of God church to Master's Commission ministry graduates.

Check it out: LINK

You don't have to necessarily watch the WHOLE video (although to understand full context I would recommend it) but please note 3:40-4:03.  You should see that Sarah first mentions to 'pray for the military' and eludes to praying for the US officials in charge of the Military.  Let me quote for you the 'questionable' clip the media seems to be focused on.

Here's what you may have heard: "...Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from G-D."

But there is more!  Palin continues,

"That's what we have to make sure we are praying for that there is a plan and that, that plan is G-D's plan. So um, Bless them with your prayers, your prayers of protection over our soldiers..."

So yes she said it but the context that the media is trying to put on it simply isn't there.

Which is what she explained to Charlie Gibson, but of course, he couldn't accept that, since it didn't fit his agenda of what he wanted to make Sarah Palin look like.

If that's what she was trying to explain to Charlie she should have stuck to her guns saying, "Charlie you need to play the whole segment there and not cut it off where you did."  That in and of itself would have made the appropriate clarifications that would have answered Charlie's question.  I'm not sure exactly why she wandered off about Abraham Lincoln.

She could of nailed the biasness of that clip by having them play the rest of that segment.

But hey, anyone can play monday morning quarterback.

Excatly, why shouldnt people be able to talk in the metaphors they understand.

If there was a pagan running that was about as good as the McCain/Palin ticket I d most likely vote for them. But as it stands, I m sure that I m better represented by the two who believe in freedom of religon, vs the democrats that seems to me wish to stamp it all out, only to replace it with their own.

Eh, guess I should quit reading news articles online...apparently they're wrong.

Sorry, you and Matt Damon wait for the first Atheist or Pagan president or VP. Until then I guess you'll have to put up with crazy talk from people who believe in God speaking their minds about what they believe about God.

Aw, Ted...never said I didn't believe in God.   It just makes me nervous when people are combining God's will and public policy...kinda blurs the line between state and religion.

But I dont have a problem with someone who goes to a seminary and speaks that way.

But if she gets power(say, McCain kicks it while in office) and runs the country and starts speaking(or rather thinking) that way...eh...we'll have a bit of a problem.  Then you got yourself a Divine Leader...and oh the trouble that can come with that...

Excatly, why shouldnt people be able to talk in the metaphors they understand.

Oh, they can...but that's not the issue.  It's when public policy become's "God's divine plan" and who dares to argue with God's plan?  (Besides me, that is )

When is Obama going to be in a debate against Palin?  That would sell commercials.  Then Biden and McCain can rumble at 2 in the morning, 'cuz nobody wants to watch it anyway.
